The eclipse of democracy by individualism

The eclipse of democracy.

The transition of politicians from individual ambition, supremacy, arrogance and authoritarianism is a natural progression. Modi is a typical example. Still, we ignore the potential dangers of individual leaders in various states mimicking Modi with their arrogance, supremacies.

Democracy is presently eclipsed by individualism and authoritarianism. The ‘Kings’ will determine whether the eclipse stays partial, total or permanent and the extent to which democracy survives for the people to exercise their freedom of expression and votes.

We may remain optimistic that the eclipse has to end and the democracy will emerge from behind. But it will be so if the rulers and their logics, sense, rationality are as predictable as the movement of the planets. The condition of our democracy continues to be critical.

We should not go by the occasional flicker of hopes. We should understand Modi, the professional who is taking enough care to check and choke democracy in the ICU. Modi does not believe in democracy as it will end his authoritarianism, individual supremacy and RSS agenda.

The primitive mindset of RSS, BJP, Modi thrives on inequality and supremacies. They do not believe in politics or politicians propagating an Egalitarian Society. They partake in politics to capture power as that is the only way to end democracy and implement their plan.

The individualism

We have to see reality in its barest form. We cannot live in an imaginary world presuming ourselves to be visionaries. There are innumerable hurdles. BJP wants to have centralised control over everything through bureaucrats, governors, individuals who have weaknesses.

They turn them into fixers at every weak, troubled spot. There is a long list starting from Manipur, Kashmir, Puducherry, Goa, Delhi, Karnataka, Madhyapradesh, Maharashtra. They do not even trust the party veterans but the individuals who can mercilessly execute the jobs.

Modi has a dislike for party veterans. Even Yogi is not their choice even now. They like to have trusted bureaucrats in controlling positions. The latest one doing rounds in the media is for UP. They had the guts to announce ‘Metroman’ Sridharan as their CM choice in Kerala.

They certainly do not want powerful politicians but only yesmen of various grades and shades, who can undertake the assignments of Modi, Shah, RSS. They will not have any roots and can be disposed of at will when necessary. The entire operation is centralised with minute details.

The threat for the opposition

If we are to make a list of the arrogant, unethical acts of the Modi regime during the past seven years, it will send shivers down the spine. It will add to the negativity. But leaders like Kejriwal should understand that they are small flies. They are only allowed to divide votes.

Mamata’s Sholay dialogue “Jo Darte Hai, Woh Marte Hai” is okay for the gallery. How many CMs will heed her call to be bold. Definitely, Jagan, KCRao, Navin are not going to oblige. Even Stalin, Vijayan will have their calculations. Her spirit and soul cannot get inside them.

There were many setbacks for the Modi regime. But their crude response has not stopped even now. One can quote the example of interference in West Bengal, giving central forces protection to their Bengal MLAs, excesses in Lakshadweep etc. A lot of hard work, sacrifices are needed.

How long individual leaders of caste, subcaste, sectarian groups can withstand the money power plus ruthlessness of the Modi & Co. No one should underestimate them. The opposition may again live in their wonderland, making calculations on paper. Modi may love their daydreams.

Congress, Rahul know the strength and weaknesses of other opposition parties. They have to tackle problems within. Their recent record of political execution is weak. Congress requires drastic changes. Rahul mentioned that, but he should carry it out. Everything rests on it.
