No one can stop Rahul or his plans for Congress

There is no one who can stop Rahul from taking over as Congress President again if he agrees to it. Even if he does not agree, his political control over the party, people will not diminish in any way. He talked about the drastic changes required in Congress. He will make it a reality.

His steady, steadfast approach, clarity and firmness on issues do indicate that Rahul is going to go ahead with his plans of rejuvenating congress come what may. He continued with it even after his resignation as INC President. Why will he dilute his plans now?

When drastic changes are to be effected they should be carefully planned and executed. It is not easy to change the mindset of people habituated to a process or system. One has to wait for the idea to settle in their minds and the political weather becoming conducive for it.

Congress performance in the current assembly elections is definitely going to be better than initially predicted. Even if it is not as expected, the process of change is not going to stop. Rahul’s hands will be strengthened. He will initiate necessary measures to resurrect Congress.

Rahul is aware that he is having total support of the party. He interacts with cadres and leaders and listens to them; knows their pulse. But he has to change the mindset of leaders who act as power centres. When winds are blowing in your way, things will fall in their place.

Some talk about surgical interventions and bulldozing views of leaders. But that is not the culture of Congress. It is a family. If someone is going astray or adrift from our culture, practices we do try to reason with them, convince and correct to set them on the right path.

They could push it only to the extent that the organisation can withstand. It is a question of proceeding with confidence in measured steps and not overly aggressive or acting in haste, repenting at leisure. The external symptoms are few but internal damages are more.

The Congress organisation itself was adrift for so long without corrections. Many of the leaders were victims of the circumstances while some used them to their advantage. So these ‘patients’ are to be brought back to life and make them useful to the family to the extent possible.

If we think that process is too slow then we are not fully informed. We do not trust the political acumen of Rahul. He is strictly adhering to the Congress approach for the long-term health of the organisation. He has confidence. We should have it in him for executing that mission.

One has to keep in mind that Rahul is basically a self-effacing, unobtrusive character. He does not make noises which is the norm for our politicians. They do not make sense but try to make their presence felt. But Rahul believes in his actions and determination to drive him.

Unless circumstances go beyond anyone’s control, no one can stop Rahul from executing his plans to resurrect, rejuvenate, restructure, restore Congress back to its old path of glory to carry on with the spirit, principles it followed over 100 years as a mass-based people’s movement.
