The opposition – Scope and hopes – Part Ⅵ

Unleashing Truth offensive

Those who are not fascists and have a human element in them may take offence to the word offensive. Maybe they have imbibed more of Gandhian values of nonviolence. But Mahatma himself used truth offensive in combination with his charm and love. Why not we unleash this offensive?

Spreading truth and allowing it to percolate downwards passively is a time-consuming process. We should apply Gandhian ways to suit present circumstances. Showing the other cheek is not going to earn you a kiss from fascists. Now we need to unleash truth freely without holding back.

Truth is the best nonviolent weapon against fascists. So also offence is the best form of defence. Truth is our USP. Bjp does not have it. Everything BJP does is shrouded in mystery, secrecy. Nothing is open as they are far away from the truth. Why should we be defensive about it?

Many of us and most of our people understand the value of truth but we have not utilised its potential fully against lies and propaganda of Modi/ Shah/ BJP/ RSS. Farmers’ movement, people showering them flowers in Delhi are typical examples of truth offensive and its acceptance.

The tears of Tikait and the swelling of the crowd at Ghazipur border are again examples of how truth, love, compassion that open the floodgates against hatred, divisive agenda of fascists. The social media is also unfolding, exploding the value of truth. Why not we have more of it?

Make truth as an offensive tool. Lies and negative stories sell and appeal to people. They consider those who are bold and aggressive as heroes. Why not launch an offensive against lies? That can also gain traction. Revolutions may happen. More ‘Gandhis’ may emerge out of it.

There are various ways to launch this truth offensive.  We can adopt every means to spread the truth. It is a question of adopting appropriate methods. Everyone can do within their limitations. Popular leaders with reach can do better. Why not mobilise them to spread the truth?

The silent majority should be made to commit themselves to the truth. Push and plead with people who know what is the truth but conveniently stand aloof while enjoying the fruits of society. Let the vibrations and reverberations of truth pierce, permeate eyes, ears and minds of all.

The many great divides that Modi and his entourage has created has damaged and destroyed this country. The greatest divide they created is on farmers’ issue between truth and lies. It is a blessing in disguise. The strength of gathering storm of truth should blow out Modi & Co.

Initiatives in building relationships

Our opposition parties and its leaders were creating illusions and pollutions to mobilise voters. They thought they were smart until fascists came to the scene. They are unable to understand or withstand how to respond to the masters in this art with added dimensions of thuggery.

The sad part is most of these parties are still living in Utopia and maybe dying with these illusions. Even their sapne is not green but smoky or shaky. They are still not ready to accept reality and work for the unity of the opposition parties. That is the only option left for them.

The leaders of non-congress opposition parties with few exceptions are so obdurate and obstinate that they are working more for Congress-mukt Bharat than BJP while blaming Congress for the weak opposition. Congress should bring logic, sense with frank, no-nonsense discussions.

It is true that they are a hard nut to crack. But Congress has to attempt to de-rust, defrost relationships with some warmth and openness. But they should not wait for their benevolence or mercy. The other options may be simpler or harder depending on one’s positivity or negativity.

Congress has to understand its USP with the presence of charismatic leaders like Rahul, Priyanka. No one else has an all India appeal among masses. Beyond their service, sacrifice to the nation and the brand name earned, Rahul, Priyanka have love, commitment for our people and nation.

Congress failed to bring in Rahul as President with or without elections. The senior leaders have botched again to bring aggression and positivity. They should have strengthened Rahul’s position giving enough freedom for him to act; bring in dynamism and activities in Congress.

Rahul does not want to hurt his seniors. This reluctance is counterproductive. What is important is not what his seniors think or whether they got hurt but what the Congress and nation need. His reluctance to break path is misinterpreted as being a parttime politician.

Having a dig at Rahul is the pastime of nonCongress leaders. He does not get hurt by such remarks. But he was more dismayed by lack of support from Congress leaders. They continue to be lethargic, inactive and shift the blame on Rahul. But his throwing in the towel may not be right.

There are other ways to deal with it. One has to give weightage to the cost, damage to the party and nation over the niceties of personal relationships and rapport. Sometimes one does fail to overcome some inborn qualities to maintain strict professional dynamics needed.

Such civilities, courtesies are in their blood. We have to accept them. Even Priyanka did not enter politics and Rahul left it to her personal choice. She was goaded by her wards to plunge in politics. She was perhaps wasting charismatic potential to attract and serve people.

Maybe they have underestimated their potential. But definitely, they are underutilising it. They love our people. People love and trust them. But there is some hesitancy or blocks to build a strong direct relationship. It has not yet fully blossomed into a mature one.

Beyond their natural liking, its utility for their party, they should think of its need and use for the people and the nation. Love should not remain unexpressed. Even a love letter sometimes needs some weight to reach the doors of a person or people concerned.
